Welcome and pictures of the Brown Hyena Project

Welcome to the blog!

We will be going next week to South Africa to help scientists collect data for their research on the Brown Hyena and it will be an exciting time. The scientists and the staff at Mankwe Wildlife Reserve are all great people; the Motolob Dam Campsite in the middle of the reserve is at a scenic spot and the work we are going to do is very interesting.
Spoor tracking, camera trap setting, radio-tracking are part of those activities as is collecting hyena scat and I can guarantee you all that you will become experts in scat spotting!
The night drives and spotlighting together with the call-inns are fantastic. Going out in the night to look for animals with spotlights is fun, but playing a tape with screaming hyenas in a National Park to attract carnivores is something you will only do as a scientist.

It is not possible to update the blog daily, since there is only limited access to a computer. We will try to update the blog every two or three days, but no guarantees. Photos can only be added to the blog after the expedition.
